A North Yorkshire housebuilder is starting work on a major housing scheme in County Durham.

Knaresborough-based Wharfedale is building 72 homes north of Spa Road, Gainford, in partnership with the Raby Estate.

The site, which is located to the west of the village, will be opened up before Christmas so work can begin on the infrastructure, with groundworks to follow in the New Year.

Planning permission for the scheme had been granted in 2021.
