Poor mobile phone signal at public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations has been suggested as a factor in need of redress by Marc Dal Cin, founder of Australian firm EV Charger Installation.
Some public charging stations rely on mobile networks for access and payment functions, and Mr Dal Cin has drawn attention to the issues faced by those who encounter limited or no signal.
Mr Dal Cin said: "Unlike petrol stations, which are fully accessible at any time, many EV chargers require a mobile connection to activate or process payments.
"For drivers in rural areas or even parts of cities where signal is unreliable, this can mean the difference between a successful charge and being left stranded.
"We need to build confidence in public charging options.
"Ensuring chargers are accessible at all times, regardless of mobile connectivity, is key to making EVs a realistic option for everyone."
He added: "As more people choose electric, we need to ensure charging infrastructure keeps up - not just in terms of availability, but in accessibility too."
Mr Dal Cin suggested increased Wi-Fi coverage at charging sites, and the addition of satellite internet for remote areas, as solutions to the problem he pointed out.
