Free slippers are to be given away during a one-off event at Pickering Library this Friday (December 6), to help prevent falls among older people.
The event will take place from 10am to 12pm and is being organised by North Yorkshire Council in partnership with North Yorkshire Sport.
As well as an opportunity to pick up slippers, the event will serve as a "slipper social" where people can have a chat and learn from various organisations that support older people.
Representatives from Carers Support, Carers Plus Yorkshire, Sight Support, North Yorkshire Police, Living Well, NYCommunity Culture, and North Yorkshire Sport will all be present at the event.
According to a spokesperson from the council, "the library service ran successful events at 14 libraries over the past two years, gifting more than 750 pairs of slippers."
The slippers on offer have rubber soles and are wide-fitting, making it easier for those with restricted mobility to get them on and off.
They also come with a Velcro fastener.
Pickering Library volunteers will be holding a Christmas coffee morning to coincide with the event.
