Santa can take you to a show

With the Christmas frenzy getting up to full flow, how about a present that you can buy without braving the full shops and congested car parks?

The Milton Rooms in Malton has tantalising programme of events lined up for next year at very reasonable ticket prices and they make excellent festive presents. Tickets are available online at www.themiltonrooms.com and can be purchased with a few clicks.

January is dominated by one unmissable thing – the annual pantomime. This year, Malton & Norton Musical Theatre is staging a giant adventure, Jack & The Beanstalk – The Pantomime, which promises fun for all ages.

At the end of the month, there’s a Country & Western Extravaganza, full of dancing, games and competitions, and on February 8 the beat turns tropical with York Latinos and a night of Cuban music and dance.

Then on February 15 don’t miss the NE Street Band and the music of the incomparable Bruce Springsteen, plus two Rural Arts offerings, Ugg ’n’ Ogg and The World’s First Dogg on the 20th and Ma Bessie’s Prohibition Party on the 21st. Oh, and don’t forget Megaslam Wrestling on the 19th.

Ryedale Blus Club recently announced its line-up for 2025 and first up is the Big Wolf Band on the 27th.

Thursday, December 5: Malton White Star Band – ‘Brass at Christmas’. The White Star Band is a vibrant, community brass band which gives concerts, regular performances at the Malton Food Markets, plays for charity events and more. The Community Training Band, started in 2023, provides free tuition, the loan of instruments and lots of fun. 7pm. Tickets £8.

Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8: E(s)mereld(a) the Elf and Father Christmas 2024. Join Epic Adventure Parties for their annual festive show, a perfect start to the Christmas season for all the family. The interactive show lasts about 20 minutes, followed by family visits to Santa and a gift for every child. There are three performances on the Saturday, at 12 noon, 2pm and 3.30pm and four on the Sunday, at 10.30am, 12 noon, 2pm and 3.30pm. Tickets are £5 per adult and £5 per child. Friday, December 20: Supersonic Queen. Regarded as one of the UK’s premier Queen tribute bands, Supersonic Queen bring all the spirit and majesty of Queen to audiences all over the country. Performing in UK and International theatres and festivals, Supersonic Queen have been touring for over a decade and are known for their dynamic recreation of Queen’s iconic live performances. 8pm. Saturday, January 18 to Saturday, January 25: Jack and the Beanstalk – The Pantomime. Join Malton & Norton Musical Theatre in their spectacular 2025 pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. Packed with laughs, toe-tapping songs and plenty of audience participation, this family-friendly show promises fun for all ages. Friday, January 31: Howdy! A Country & Western Estravaganza. From DB Events, the team who brought Bingo’n’Crazy and SO 90s Live to the Milton Rooms. A two-hour live show with dancing, DJs, singers, fun, games and competitions. 8pm. Tickets £16.

Saturday, February 8: York Latinos – A Night of Latin Music and Dance. Join York Latinos for The Cuban Experience, a lively celebration of Cuban music and culture. Their diverse backgrounds unite to create a unique sound that pays homage to the traditional rhythms of their homelands, while infusing them with contemporary flair. Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or a newcomer to Latin beats, join them on a musical journey straight to the heart of the tropical island, led by incredible musicians and fantastic dancer from Havana. 8pm. Saturday, February 15: The NE Street Band – The Music of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The NE Street Band is a six-piece dedicated to the music of Bruce Springsteen. The band was formed in 2019 and have continued to grow from smaller venues in the North East to regularly taking their two and a half hour shows across the country. With all the classic Bruce songs, fan favourites, rarities, stripped back acoustic versions and tracks from ‘The Seeger Sessions’, the band certainly doesn’t play it safe with their set list and covers all genres of Springsteen’s back catalogue, offering something for every fan to enjoy. 8pm. Wednesday, February 19: Megaslam Wrestling. The incredible live experience for families returns to Malton as Megaslam presents its new 2025 Live and Loaded Tour. Be prepared for two hours of great family entertainment as the stars of Team Nasty and Team Megaslam take to the ring. The larger-than-life superstars will compete in edge-of-the-seat, action-packed matches including Megaslam Championship, Megaslam Rumble, Megaslam Ladies and much more. 7pm. Thursday, February 20: Rural Arts presents Ugg ’n’ Ogg and The World’s First Dogg. In the fresh sparkling world just after the last Ice Age, there were no dogs. So how did we get our best friend and the world’s number one pet, the dog? Well, along came two young hunter-gatherers called Ugg ’n’ Ogg to pal up with the wolves Tooth ’n’ Claw and embark on a fun-packed adventure where, despite flying meat bones, raging forest infernos and even a time-travelling stick, they finally get to invent the dog and save everyone from a life of doglessness. 2pm. Tickets £8 adults, £4 children age two and over.

Friday, February 21: Ma Bessie’s Prohibition Party. Building on her passion for the Empress of the Blues, Julia Titus started to perform as Ma Bessie in 2015 to share the music of Bessie Smith and her contemporaries with a new generation. Julia’s rich, warm vocal sound is mixed with a dynamic group of musicians who look as well as sound the part. Ma Bessie combines classic blues and jazz tunes from the inter-war years with a selection of original songs and handpicked covers from the past 50 years of popular music. 7.30pm. Tickets £15.

Thursday, February 25: Grant Harris Medium. Join Grant for one of his evenings of mediumship and see him work as he connects with loved ones to provide messages of support, reassurance and clarity. Thursday, February27: Ryedale Blues Club – Big Wolf Band. The Big Wolf Band, a highly acclaimed group with multiple award nominations, was formed in Birmingham in 2014 by celebrated guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Jonathan Earp, along with bassist Mick Jeynes. The band is often described as explosive, dynamic, raw, emotional and hardworking and with Tim Jones on drums, Justin Johnson on guitar and Robin Fox on keys, they form a formidable, powerful blues rock powerhouse. 8pm.
