A Yorkshire garden centre group has donated Christmas trees to community causes, including in York and Scarborough.

Yorkshire Garden Centres gave ten real and artificial trees to organisations near their centres in York, Tong, Tingley, Otley, Batley, and Scarborough.

Haxby Hall Care Home, in York, was one of the beneficiaries, following a request made at Dean's Garden Centre.

Emma Littlewood, area manager at the home, said: "Haxby Hall is a new care home for elderly residents.

"We have 34 people living with us, and this could possibly be their last Christmas due to physical and mental health conditions.

"We want to ensure that our home is the most magical place for all residents, families, and staff, so this tree will play a huge part in this."

Other beneficiaries of Yorkshire Garden Centres' tree-giving include New Earswick Primary School, the Women's and Newborn Unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary, and Kirkwood Hospice.

Dean's Garden Centre was acquired by Yorkshire Garden Centres earlier this year.

Founded by the Dean family in 1968, the centre occupies a four-acre site in Stockton on the Forest and is home to a range of plants, gardening and leisure goods, and the Bothy restaurant.
