BIG queues built up well before Denmark’s answer to the furniture giant Ikea opened its first Yorkshire store in York.
The global furniture retailer JYSK threw open the doors to its 1,400sq ft premises in Sterling Road, at Clifton Moor, yesterday.
A spokeswoman for the retail giant said queues of customers built up beforehand to take advantage of “when-they’re-gone-they’re-gone bargains” and a free Danish breakfast. The store, which has created 15 jobs, sells a range of mattresses, duvets, towels, textiles, bookcases, beds, tables, sofas, housewares and garden furniture.
JYSK is one of the world’s biggest retail furniture groups, with 1,350 stores in 30 countries and plans for further expansion in Italy, Slovenia and Russia.
