Why go there? The Yorkshire Lavender farm, covering nearly 60 acres, is set in the Howardian Hills – an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – with panoramic views of the Vale of York and beyond. In the summer, the lavender plants, ranging in colour from white through to blues, lilacs and deep purples, give off a cocktail of heady scents. The farm has a large selection of lavender and herb plants for sale, together with border perennials, biennials, annuals, grasses, alpines and wild flowers. Features designed to appeal to all members of the family include sculptures, a lavender maze, a Mediterranean dry garden, a sensory garden, a purple patch garden, themed herb gardens, a “wibbly wobbly way”, a wild flower meadow, a bog garden, a hillside “snakes and ladders” area and a deer park. Animals include fallow deer, highland cattle and pet lambs.

Is it accessible? The farm is wheelchair accessible and has full disabled facilities, including a wheelchair available for use. Guide dogs only.

How much is it? Free admission.

When is it open? The farm is open seven days a week (10am to 5pm) until November 2, 2008.

Does it have toilet and refreshment facilities? Yes. EJ’s licensed tea room/restaurant serves morning coffee, lunches and afternoon teas. The freshly baked lavender scones and lavender ice-cream are particularly popular.

Anything else? The gift shop sells a wide range of lavender products, including the farm’s Yorkshire Lavender range. Items include beauty products, essential oils, books and specialist foods.
