We were on our way back from a pleasant few hours in Bedale. Sylvia discovered a ladies shop there, where Goray skirts are still stocked and a silk top which she liked, when we stopped there, returning from the dales last week. We discovered another sight not often seen this time; a butcher with a long, continuous queue and a good display of local meat. Bought 1lb of diced venison for £3 and a piece of pork for the freezer. We like the venison stewed with a few carrots and served with vegetables (spring cabbage and Cornish new potatoes today). Same price as jerseys and smaller. The gravy is full of flavour too and it will serve us two days. We also had very satisfying soup and sandwiches at the pub, just along from the dress shop for £4. Home made tomato and basil soup and a real brown bread Yorkshire ham sandwich nicely served and washed down with a glass of liquid refreshment.

Getting down to the subject matter! Do you know this flower ?

Returning through Carthorpe, on the road to Thirsk, we stopped to look at an impressive large house on the right, through large gates and extensive parkland. Sign posted as Camp Hill, it is run on a commercial basis. What then fascinated us was a thick white profusion of flowers over the verges, up to the hedges, on each side of the road. They were flowers we have never noticed anywhere before.

It is white with several tiny flowers and a tiny bunch of yellow berries to a stalk. The leaves are similar to those of a blue bell. We have not been able to find it in any of our books! Can anybody settle our curiosity ?
