I WAS saddened to read the plight of a young man trying so hard to care for his alcoholic father (Living with an alcoholic father, The Press, September 25), which ended in tragic circumstances.
William Sim Jnr must have been at his wits end trying to cope with his father’s condition.
What I would like to know is why this poor lad carried this situation alone?
Surely the GP involved must have referred his father to social services and possibly set up alcohol counselling?
There’s a lot of good work goes on via social work, and this would have taken the pressure off his son.
I only feel sympathy for this young man, not only on the loss of his father, but obviously being let down by the social system, and carrying this sad situation alone is completely unacceptable.
I would say good luck to you William, move on now and have a good life.
