A cracking ladies’ division one duel saw University Staff Club beat Huntington 5-4 in the York Badminton League.
Jayne Colley and Sheila Mackarel were the campus mainstays with three wins for 147-108, including a vital 21-23, 21-12, 21-19 success over Claire Forth and Margaret Chambers to snatch the win bonus points.
Selby/Drax ‘A’ reinforced their top spot in men’s two with wins over Clifton C (8-1) and RI Tuesday/Thursday B (7-2).
Scott Anderson and Dennis Bradley kept up their good form for Selby this season by taking a maximum six wins from six rubbers for a two-match 268-195 total.
Clifton ‘A’ made it five wins from six mixed one outings with a 6-3 triumph over their ‘B’ team, followed by an 8-1 home win over Riverside ‘A’.
Clifton ‘B’ opening pair Erik Wagenaar and Ronnie Davison upset the formbook by taking all three rubbers for a total of 141-93.
George Noble and Karen Anderson took a season’s best return against Riverside with three wins for 126-60, while Craig Dobson and Alison Hyde stopped the whitewash with a two-game win over Daniel Woolfson and Karen Broster.
Selby/Drax ‘A’ kept up the pressure at the top of mixed two by remaining unbeaten after a 7-2 win at Riverside ‘B’. The highlight of the Selby display was the excellent form of Scott Anderson and Michelle Hall, who combined well to score three straight wins for a total of 126-74.
Selby Jubilee ‘A’ kept up their good record in mixed three with a narrow 5-4 home win over a resurgent Knavesmire.
James and Ning Dawson made the Jubilee difference with three straight wins for 126-63.
University Staff Club had mixed fortunes in mixed four.
They beat RI Tues/Thursday ‘B’ 8-1, and then went down 5-4 to old rivals University Students ‘C’.
Lim Eng-Kiat and Sheila Mackarel took a maximum against the students to register a return of 146-104.
Against the Institute, Garry Turner and Sue Scott took the honours with three wins for 146-104.
Tadcaster 86 ‘B’ look to have mixed five sewn up by sealing five wins from five after an 8-1 conquest of Middlethorpe.
Marina Hilditch and John Greenhalgh put in one of their best displays of the season to record three straight wins for 126-66.
