A MURDERED man dumped in a canal near Selby received a “severe and savage beating to his head and face”, rendering him unrecognisable.
Police have still not been able to identify who the man was or where he was from, but with the help of the latest computer technology they have created an image of what they think he may have looked like.
They are now appealing to members of the South East Asian community for any information which may help investigating officers ascertain who he was and who his killers were.
Appeals have been made in Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese and Korean and a hotline has been set up where people can leave messages in their own language.
Detective Superintendent Karnail Dulku said he was almost certain the murder victim had been trafficked into the country, and reminded people that just because he was probably in the country illegally, it did not mean he did not have a family who loved him and wondered as to his whereabouts.
The man’s body was discovered last Friday (20 March) in the canal at Burn Bridge.
Anyone with information about the man’s identity or who his killers were can leave a message by calling 01904 669120, e-mail opcaddy@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
