SVEN Goran Eriksson’s Notts County juniors were taught a footballing lesson by York City under 18s at Wigginton Road.
The Minstermites ran out sensational 7-0 winners with wily winger Jamie Hopcutt hitting a hat-trick.
Centre-back Dean Lisles also bagged a brace while Dominic Brown and substitute Dan Owers got the other goals to take the team’s tally to 12 in two games following the 5-1 victory at Mansfield.
Steve Torpey’s teenagers set a high tempo from the first whistle, pressing play all over the pitch, with Lisles opening the scoring when he reacted quickest to a spilled Hopcutt shot to round the keeper and slide the ball home with his left foot.
City then doubled their lead before the break after midfielder Michael Duckworth whipped in a teasing cross to the back post where Hopcutt was lurking to volley home his first of the game.
Ten seconds after the restart, Hopcutt turned provider again when his low cross found the unmarked Brown for an easy tap-in.
The ever-dangerous Hopcutt then cut in from the left to hit a low, 20-yard drive into the bottom corner for 4-0.
Hopcutt, proving a nightmare for the County defence, capped off another excellent move to complete his hat-trick after another telling Duckworth cross.
With 15 minutes left to play, Lisles added his second of the game, showing great reactions in the box to cleverly volley home a dropping ball.
Striker Kingsley Wetherald was then unfortunate not to get his name on the scoresheet when he struck the post with a right-footed effort.
Owers put the seal on a terrific display with a sublimely-taken half-volley from 15 yards after right-back Jonny Andrew had ventured forward to provide the cross.
Debutant ’keeper Chris Barratt also deserves praise for keeping a clean sheet in his first game.
City under-18s are back in action today with a home match against Rotherham, kick-off 11am.
