BIG serving took pride of place at the IT Sports York & District Mixed Tennis League’s end-of- season trophy presentation night.
A serving speed gun was on hand for league players to see if they could come close to the current world record holders.
Andy Roddick holds the men’s’ record with an incredible 155mph, while Venus Williams’ record for the women stands at a meaty 127.4mph.
IT Sports players were unable to match them, but Mark Harris, of Bubwith Tennis Club, and York Tennis Club’s Louise Marshman won the top prizes with serves of 89mph and 67mph respectively.
League president and founder member Malcolm Huntington handed out the trophies to the 11 divisional winners, with York Tennis Club having taken top spot in division one.
The league, which was set up in 1957, is the biggest mixed league in the country with 86 teams participating in 11 divisions.
