Like Heather Causnett (Count me in, Letters, November 26) and probably many other people, I have become completely disenchanted with the current bear-baiting scenario under the guise of “reality TV” currently on offer to us the viewers.
I run a children’s singing club, where we teach children to sing but perhaps more importantly teach them to enjoy music and build up their self-confidence.
Several of our members and one of our volunteers have auditioned for these shows without success, despite the fact that the majority of them were, and indeed are, superior to most of the singers appearing on TV.
One female singer, who is well known in York for her beautiful singing voice, was told that “she was not the type of singer they needed”.
So my advice to young people with “wannabe” hopes is to enjoy their music, dream of a more realistic career and avoid these cattle markets – unless, of course, you have the hide of a rhinoceros.
Alternately join my New Generation Singing Club and we will help you to fulfil your dreams – and enjoy yourself. For further information, phone me on 01904 790732.
