TO the young lady with a blonde ponytail who was on her bicycle pedalling along Lawrence Street after 2pm on Saturday, November 28.

As I waited for my bus to town I saw her pedalling toward Walmgate Bar crossing and traffic lights from several hundred yards away, at the left side but in quite heavy traffic.

Shocked, I saw she was only steering her bike with only her left hand on the handlebars and her right hand clamped to her right ear as she listened or spoke into a mobile phone.

Surely there is no phone call so urgent that it could not have waited until she and her bike were off main roads, or any road for that matter, and not causing a possible hazard to herself and others.

Perhaps she was letting someone know on her mobile phone that she was safe and it wouldn’t be long until she got home. Please young lady, don’t phone home while on your bike in the midst of busy traffic.
