FLOODING caused the second postponement of York Amalgamation’s Xmas Cheer angling match on the River Ouse.
As predicted the Ouse was out of its banks last weekend and the contest was switched to this Sunday in place of the scheduled Animals Hospitals Cup.
However, with both the Ouse and Derwent still straining at the seams, and with many rivers still on flood watch, it will be another weekend of frustration.
The organisers will try again on Saturday, December 19.
Elsewhere, the limited amount of match action was restricted to still waters, where frost also meant sport was slow.
Maggot ruled again at Langwith and, despite falling water temperatures, Steve Cromie took the best weight for some weeks.
Working to the island margins at peg 21 on Emma’s Lake, the Spenborough angler found carp to 3lb and scaled 89lb 2oz.
At peg three on the same lake, Andy Skelton banked 62lb 8oz to take second place with another carp haul, this one being taken on maggot at 11 metres.
Result: 1 Steve Cromie, Spenborough, 89-2-0; 2 Andy Skelton, Langwith, 62-8-0; 3 Rich Cook, Acomb Tackle, 50-2-0; 4 Ben Linley, Peggy Tub, 45-10-0; 5 Ray Marklew, Garbolino Ossett, 41-8-0; 6 Bob Johnson, Allerton Bywater, 41-0-0.
It was much harder work at Redwood Park, Huby, for Round two of the Bob-Co Winter League.
On a tough lake overflowing with very cold heavy rains, venue owner Paul Chappell (Team Redwood) fished traditional groundbait feeder on top of and just below the far bank shelf for a mixture of skimmers and small Carp totalling 15lb 2oz.
In second place, York angler Gordon Fennell took a mostly carp catch for 11lb 14oz.
