POLICE have released a photograph revealing the identity of a man whose body was found in Burn canal.
North Yorkshire Police Officers today announced they have made “significant progress” in their investigation into the killing of Chinese national Cai Guan Chen – and a further announcement is expected later today.
Mr Chen's body was discovered in Selby Canal, near the A19 between Burn and Brayton, almost eight months ago by an off-duty policeman who was fishing nearby.
The 38-year-old victim had been living in the UK illegally since 2001 and had also used the fake name Bing Lin.
It took almost six weeks after the discovery of his body for him to be named as detectives searched for clues as to his identity and where he came from.
The Press revealed in July that an arrested man was questioned by detectives in connection with murder.
It was the most significant development in the case since forensic teams searched a property in the Heslington area in May.
