FOOTBALL fans could deliver a massive boost to The Press’s Lifesavers campaign on Saturday.
Organ donation forms will be handed out at Bootham Crescent ahead of York City’s Blue Square Premier match against Mansfield Town on Boxing Day.
Forms will be handed out by friends of Sam Sinclair, a local 19-year-old who died last month following diabetes complications.
Simon Mallett, one of those organising the event, said: “I just thought this would be a nice thing to do.”
He said the football club had also agreed to print a note about organ donation in the City match programme.
The Press launched its Lifesavers campaign earlier this month, with the aim of getting an extra 20,000 people in our area to join the Organ Donor Register by the end of 2010.
We also aim to re-open the debate about changing the organ donation law to one of presumed consent.
Our campaign was launched following the death of 22-year-old Miss York finalist Emma Young, who died while awaiting a double-lung transplant.
The campaign has already received widespread backing, from transplant recipients and also the Health Secretary Andy Burnham.
