THIS stone statue will be carving out a niche for itself at the Yorkshire Regiment Museum this weekend.
The grotesque called The Keeper Of Souls was designed by Lee Godfrey, a conservator and carver Mason at York Minster’s Stoneyard.
It will find a temporary home at the museum just in time for its reopening on Saturday as part of the Residents Festival.
The carving is an interpretation piece designed to acknowledge Prince Andrew’s wish to celebrate the work done by serving soldiers from the regiment, where he is Colonel-in-Chief.
According to Mr Godfrey the statue is meant to reflect the “leap of faith” that can take a person beyond injuries, ailments and death into heaven.
