There has been a lot written in The Press regarding the proposed changes in the traffic management along Blossom Street and the junction in front of Micklegate Bar.

The current trend near that area is to build and extend hotels, none of which have car parking.

The new hotel, yet to be finished, in Blossom Street has no car park, and now it is proposed to have another just inside Micklegate Bar, adjoining what will be the new council offices on Tanner row.

What effect will this have on traffic flows, I wonder, when visitors to the new hotels are driving around and around trying to find car park spaces?

Yes, I know there is a large car park down Nunnery Lane. This will be used, of course, by hotels, as there is nothing else in the area. Good for the council, as it will receive payments for overnight parking, but maybe not so good for York residents who will find them full on an evening when they want to visit the city.

It is an unusual situation that if a doctor or vet wanted to open a new surgery in the city they would have to provide car parking, but for hotels there is no such requirement.
