I WOULD like to urge all fans of York City FC and York City Knights to mobilise themselves against City of York Council’s plans to spend £43 million on a new HQ, as revealed in The Press.
It is a joke that the council can prioritise plush new offices in central York, while dragging its heels over the location of the new community sports arena and making no financial commitment towards its development.
Sports fans in York get a raw deal compared with other (poorer) cities and, if there is money in the kitty for large-scale construction projects of this type, it surely should be used to our benefit first.
The football club faces a survival battle unless a new ground can be identified soon and rugby fans must watch their team in a soulless morgue of a stadium with barely adequate facilities.
Sports fans, please object to this shameful misuse of public funds.
Robert Nash, Skates Lane, Sutton-on-the-Forest.
