York Musical Theatre Company has received personal good wishes from Dame Vera Lynn for this weekend’s brace of nostalgic concerts in Easingwold and York.
The company will perform Some Sunny Day, a heartfelt musical tribute to Dame Vera and women in war, at the Galtres Centre tomorrow and Joseph Rowntree Theatre on Sunday.
Chairman Jim Welsman contacted Dame Vera to seek permission to use the title for the show as it is taken from her new book.
Mr Welsman said: “We were delighted to receive her blessing and a personal good luck message along with a signed photograph.”
Devised by the company, the show pays tribute to women in war through songs, sketches and readings from the wartime era.
Mr Welsman said: “Familiar and popular pieces from our sell-out show When The Lights Go On Again will feature, along with funny and touching new pieces.”
Tickets are selling fast, but a few remain available for each 7.30pm performance on 01347 822472 for tomorrow or 01904 623568 for Sunday.
