A POLICE station in York is to re-open seven years after it was closed.
The station in Acomb Road, Holgate, will be reopened on Thursday for a trial period by assistant chief constable of North Yorkshire Police and Tim Madgwick, a former York Chief Superintendent.
The move has been described as a victory for local policing by the three councillors for Holgate ward.
Coun Sonja Crisp said: “This is a hugely positive development in how policing is delivered in the ward. We want local policing teams to be responsive to local events and so we support the safer neighbourhood team being located in the area it serves. I’m pleased this will be the case for both the Holgate and Acomb teams. I’m confident this will lead to improvements in local policing and I congratulate North Yorkshire Police for listening to, and acting on, what residents want in order to make their neighbourhoods safer.”
