CITY of York Hockey Club Ladies I closed out their North League division one campaign with a weekend double header.

A 2-1 victory over Wigan at the University of York on Saturday was followed up with a 1-0 defeat to Northern at the same venue on Sunday.

York took the lead against Wigan from a short corner routine. Sam Binns’ straight strike shot rebounded off the ’keeper to Laura Horne, who played the ball across the goal for Fiona Bolland to score her first goal of the season.

York’s second came from woman of the match Ruth Laybourn, who put the ball into an open goal after Kirsty Rossington’s pass. Wigan pulled a goal back in the second half.

York started well in their rearranged game against Northern, but the visitors took the lead from a short corner routine and the hosts were unable to respond.
