City of York Hockey Club men’s III ended the season in style with a 3-2 victory at Ben Rhydding III in Yorkshire League division two.

City led 1-0 at half-time with a goal by Greg Sykes.

After the break, City attacked strongly and the second goal came from Mike Sansoni after a perfect pass from Sykes.

The third goal was somewhat fortuitous, as a shot was deflected in by a home defender. Rhydding struck back at a short corner and they added a second a few minutes later.

In the final stages, the hosts looked the more dangerous, but City clung on for victory. City of York II closed out their premier division campaign with a disappointing 3-2 home defeat by Lincoln Roses.

York led 2-1 at half-time after goals from Neil Reader and Peter Fitton, but the Roses fought back after the break.

City of York IV’s game against Lincoln II in division three was cancelled as the visitors were unable to raise a team.

In division five, City of York VI went down 1-0 to Ben Rhydding IV despite having the better chances.

City of York VII suffered a 3-1 home defeat by West Yorkshire Police in division five.

They were out-muscled in the early stages and went two goals down before half-time. After the interval, City rallied and began to exert pressure, pulling a goal back through Arron Solanki.

They went close to scoring an equaliser, but the Police scored late in the game to run out convincing winners.

City of York IX were beaten 7-1 at Ben Rhydding in division ten.

Trailing 4-0 at half-time, Martin Gorton scored a well-taken goal but his side were unable to rally.
