IS ANYONE else fed up with the hackneyed use of euphemisms on TV and indeed in real life today, many of which originated from other lands?
We hear so often that people need to “chill out” – I take it they need to go to the Arctic? Or they need “space” – again, I presume they need to go into orbit?
If people mean that they need to control their temper or go away on their own, then why don’t they say so? And if I hear the word ‘basically’ once more to mean “this is what I mean” I shall scream.
Years ago, we said what we meant, but could it be that people now are too lazy to use the Queen’s English.
