THIRSK’S Andrea Mayne beat Malton’s Sue Preston 3-0 in the final of the York & District Ladies Squash Veterans’ tournament.
Number three seed Preston set off at a blistering pace and took a commanding lead in the first game at Dunnington Squash Club, but Mayne hit back to take the first game 10-9.
The top seed then dominated the second game to win 9-3 and repeated the scoreline in the third to win a good quality final.
In the semi-finals, Preston knocked out club-mate Ruth Kneeshaw, the number two seed, and holder Mayne came through against number four seed Fiona Howell, of Stillington.
The plate final saw York RI’s Anne Matwijiszyn beat Liz Stacey, of Dunnington, in straight games.
Matwijiszyn had knocked out Malton’s Linda Craggs in the last four, while Stacey toppled Stillington’s Anne Rowlands.
