THE challenge has been thrown down once more.

The sixth Selby Town Hall Battle of the Bands competition for young musicians fires up on April 9, as ten more bands get ready to fight it out for a place in the grand final and the chance to perform at the Family Fun Day outdoor concert on June 20.

The event provides a platform for rising stars to play in front of their peers in a safe, alcohol-free environment. All the events over the past six years have been complete sell-outs, with every ticket to last year’s final shifting in less than 12 hours.

This year’s competition sees a host of new names performing alongside seasoned veterans, with the runners-up from both 2009 (The Wrong Rights) and 2008 (Kasima) competing again.

In the first of two heats on April 9, The Wrong Rights line up against young pretenders and first-time Town Hallers, Gears of a Masterpiece and Ginger Little Guinea Pig, plus two new “supergroups”, Jack’s Smirking Revenge and White Overalls, both comprising previous Battle of the Bands competitors.

Tickets are available in advance from Selby Town Council or online at townhallgigs.co.uk, priced only £2.50.
