A CHALLENGING walk, beautiful scenery and the chance to raise money for charity are all on offer on May 1.

The family of Bryony Aveyard have been raising money for charity for almost a year now in memory of their 11-year-old daughter. Bryony, of Woodside Avenue, in Burnholme, died suddenly of a brain haemorrhage in October 2008.

Since then her mum and dad, Kath and Rob, and brother, James, have raised tens of thousands of pounds and are aiming for a target of £110,000.

Their next big challenge is the Yorkshire Three Peaks on May 1, and the Aveyard family want as many people to get involved as possible. The challenge involves climbing Yorkshire’s three highest peaks – Pen-y-ghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m) – in a day.

The total distance is just short of 25 miles, and most people should be able to complete the course in between eight and 11 hours.

The circular walk will begin at the Holme Farm camp site at Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Anyone who wants to get involved should email kath.aveyard@tiscali.co.uk for a registration form, or phone her on 01904 422853.

Alternatively, visit wellchild.org.uk/Events-UKChallenges.asp and download the Three Peaks form.

Everyone taking part is asked to raise at least £25 in sponsorship.

The walk will be one of the last things the family to do to raise cash in aid of For the Love of Bryony – Wellchild. Wellchild helps sick children and their families throughout the UK to manage the consequences of serious illness.

The Aveyards’ last fundraising event will be a May ball at York Racecourse on May 8. The black-tie event will feature a drinks reception, four-course meal, live music, a disco and a fun casino.

Tickets for the event cost £45, or £400 for a table of ten.

They are available by contacting Kath, see above for details, or phoning joint organiser Nikki Turnbull on 01904 413537.
