PARENTS Mathew and Wendy Topham will take the plunge this weekend in a sponsored challenge to raise funds for the hospital unit that saved their son’s life.

Seb Topham was just two weeks old when he was rushed to York Hospital’s Guardian Angels Unit suffering from bronchiolitis last November.

On arrival at the high dependency unit – which was funded entirely by The Press’s Guardian Angels Appeal – he stopped breathing and had to be resuscitated and put on a specialised breathing machine for babies.

If York Hospital hand not got this machine, Seb would have faced a traumatic transfer to Leeds General Infirmary.

This Sunday, his relieved parents aim to swim 500 lengths between them of the 25-metre pool at Energise, in Acomb, which has offered them a free lane from 4pm to 9pm. Every penny they raise in sponsorship will go to the Guardian Angels charity, which supports the unit’s upkeep.

If you would like to sponsor the couple, please send cheques made payable to Guardian Angels York to Mr and Mrs Topham, 3 Bramham Road, York YO26 5AN.

There will also be a collection bucket behind the reception desk at Energise on Sunday.
