Come the next election we will lose a good and honest MP in John Grogan.

It is unfortunate that the boundaries of the Selby constituency have been redrawn so that the south of York will now be in York Outer.

Although I have not voted Labour in recent years due to the invasion of Iraq and attacks on civil liberties, I have always found John Grogan to be a good constituency MP, who has not just acted as voting fodder for the Government. A look at the public whip website shows that he has always voted with his conscience and called the Government to account when necessary.

I wish John every success, and hope he will consider returning to politics at some point in the future.

Andrew Collingwood, Langwith Lane, Heslington, York.
