MORE than 60 performers, young and old, joined together for a charity concert in York.
The event, called Acomb Sings Again, took place at Westfield Primary Community School and raised £414, which will be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
It featured music from Main Street Sound, a ladies’ barbershop chorus based at Acomb Baptist Church; New Generation Singing Club, which rehearses at York High School; Westfield School’s choir Rhythm Rollers and Pantastic, a group of steel-pan players, also from Westfield School. The event was organised by Lisa Laverick, a singer with Main Street Sound.
She said: “It was a wonderful evening. Pantastic was absolutely amazing and it was fantastic to see that we’ve got so many great little singers in Acomb.
“We wanted to support Macmillan Cancer Support because a few of our singers have been through breast cancer, and this was a nice way of giving something back to the charity for the support it has given them.
“I also lost a friend to cancer quite recently and before she died, I promised her I would do a concert for her.”
