YORK angler Dave Rollinson won the Bob-Co Winter Angling League at Redwood Park after a run of four consecutive section wins.

He saw off strong competition from venue expert and co-owner Paul Banks, who fell just short after a poor draw in the final match on Redwood Lake.

Rollinson came second in the final match with 16lb 14oz of quality skimmers, taken with maggot over pellet and groundbait at ten metres.

He overcame a strong westerly cross-wind and a number of lost slabs to claim his final section win and the league.

The final match was won by Brett Stevens with a fine 17lb 10oz mixed bag of silver fish from peg 24.

Third place went to Graham Skirrey, who amassed 16lb 7oz of small roach and skimmers.

Rollinson won £250 in cash and £50 of tackle vouchers from Bob-co.

The Inaugural Jackson Coatings Pairs event was won by Tony Chappell and Paul Banks, who also benefited with cash and Bob-co vouchers.

Final league points: Dave Rollinson 33, Paul Banks 30, Paul Chappell 27.5.

The same fishery is running a Spring League, starting tomorrow.

It includes six Saturday matches on a fortnightly schedule, with the league calculated on a points basis, with the best five results counting.

Anybody wishing to fish can turn up on the day.

Tickets are now on sale for the Redwood Angling Festival, sponsored by Mitre Pets and Angling, which is held on The Arc over the August Bank Holiday.

Tickets cost £30 and first prize will be £500, dependent on 30 entrants. For further information, email info@redwoodfishing.com or phone 07909 956532.

Meanwhile, pellet proved to be the top offering at Bethany’s peg five for Chris Watson in a solid early-season frame at Langwith Lakes on Sunday.

Fishing tight to the island, Watson found carp to 3lbs on his way to a 75lb 2oz finish.

Leading the rest with 59lb 10oz of similar stamp carp was Pip Snaith, who opted for maggot at six metres from peg 15 on Anya’s Lake.

A cold and difficult wind made for a trying match on Pond Four at Oaktree Leisure, but the carp responded well and winner Shaun Walker found fish to 6lb at peg 20.

Using pellet across to the island, Walker picked up 35lb 12oz.

Six pegs to the winner’s left, Barry Richardson alternated maggot and paste at eight metres to come close with 34lb 2oz of mainly carp to 5lbs.

The second round of the Spring League at Raker Lakes went to Michael Bailey from peg 22. Offering pellet at 18 metres, he netted fish to 4lb on his way to a 55lb 1oz.

Eddie Preston (Daylite Baits) opted for a floating bread attack on peg six, where he tempted carp to 7lb. Dave Geldart (Boston Spa) was third from peg six, where he took 45lb 6oz of carp.

The second round of the Bob-Co Spring League at Carpvale saw 39 line the banks of Cyprio and the Match Lake on Sunday.

Mick Addinall won from peg 37 on the Match Lake. The Spectrum Auto’s star netted eight quality carp for a 49lb 8oz haul.

John Mills (Bob-Co) took second, and top weight on Cyprio, from peg eight, scaling 38lb 8oz.
