EIGHT Christians will be totally immersed in a tank of water in front of York Minster on Saturday in the now-traditional open-air Easter baptisms.
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, will preside at the service, which has been organised by One Voice York, a network of Christian churches and leaders of different denominations working together across the city. For each baptism, the archbishop will be joined by the person to be baptised and his or her church leader. The joint chair of One Voice York, Graham Hutchinson, will ask the eight, who come from different denominations, and those watching to affirm their faith before the baptisms. The service begins at 2.30pm.
