A NEW relationship between York and a historic French city will be forged at a ceremony next week.
It is hoped the Ecumenical Friendship being instituted between York Minster and the Eglise Collegiale in the ancient French city of Saint-Emilion will lead to an exchange and understanding between fellow Christians. Dean of York Keith Jones said the new relationship between the cities was reason to celebrate.
“York Minster has a particular role as a place of hospitality for all Christians, and is often a place where the unity of the Church is sought,” he said.
“We rejoice in the fresh link now being created with the Church in France.” The Abbe of Saint-Emilion and the Lord Mayor of York will process from the Mansion House to the Minster wearing their medieval robes and accompanied musicians from the York Waits.
The service will take place at the Minster during Evensong on Saturday, April 10, at 5.15pm.
