ON behalf of all the staff of the bus information office which City of York Council has seen fit to close from June 1, may I thank the many members of the public who have taken the trouble to express their appreciation and support for our service.

We have been overwhelmed with the many messages of goodwill that we have received.

We have been left in no doubt that local people consider that for a city the size of York to lack a bus station is unfortunate; to lack a central bus information office is inexcusable.

I hope that when it comes to the next election, the Liberal Democrats will learn that when budget cuts are necessary, front-line services should be the last to be affected.

Fran Lambert, Stones Close, York.
