A PENSIONER died after being run over by a lorry, in an horrific accident that brought the centre of York to a standstill.
The terrible incident happened at about 9.40am, on Pavement, near The Golden Fleece pub.
Police said the elderly woman, believed to be local, was in the road when she was hit by the lorry as it was setting off.
She was certified dead at the scene.
Traffic was being diverted away from area today, and Pavement was closed to motorists while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
