ECO-FRIENDLY Ryedale residents have pushed recycling levels to more than 40 per cent.
The district has smashed through Government recycling targets with ease.
John Brown, recycling co-ordinator for Ryedale District Council, said: "Kerbside recycling tonnages of glass, cans, paper and garden waste are all well up, in tonnage terms, on previous years."
In 2002, only ten per cent of the district's household rubbish was recycled. It is estimated the figure for 2005/06 will be 43 per cent, beating the 30 per cent target.
