All places in North Yorkshire, some where we live, some that we know. All assessed for the potential for the disposal of toxic nuclear waste.

As Tony Blair pre-empts his government's review of its energy white paper and puts nuclear back on the energy platform, so will the need to locate suitable disposal sites.

With a new nuclear program, we would need to find a home for anything up to 500,000 tonnes of dangerous nuclear waste. For those who support a new nuclear programme I ask the questions: Would you support a waste disposal site near you? Would you accept nuclear trains rumbling through your village?

If so, fair enough. If not, then how can you support such a program?

Meanwhile, de-centralised energy technologies which source geothermal, solar and wind energy can be employed today. These technologies can vastly out-supply anything nuclear can offer at lower sustainable prices.

They will enable us to attain 2020 carbon targets and reduce our increasing reliance on fuel imports from unstable parts of the world.
