ONE swallow does not necessarily make a summer, but a singular Swallow won the annual St Leonard's Hospice tournament at Fulford GC.

Forest Park GC's Jeremy Swallow (16 handicap) scored 41 stableford points to win on a count-back over the last six holes to pip Fulford's David King.

Fulford's Ann Wynn won the ladies' prize with 34 points, one clear of club colleague Sue Candalet in an event which raised almost £15,000 for the hospice. That took the total from the tournament's 26 years to beyond the £150,000 mark for St Leonard's.

  • Champion exit MALTON and Norton Golf Club's Emma Duggleby reached the quarter-finals of the English Ladies' Amateur Championship at West Lancashire.

Johnson lost to 17-year-old rising star Kiran Matharu (Cookridge Hall) in the semi-finals. Matahru went on to beat Ganton's Naomi Edwards in an all-Yorkshire final.

In the early rounds, Duggleby, a twice winner of the title, knocked out Catterick teenager Jodi Ewart and England international Kerry Smith (Waterlooville).
