I SAW that in The Press (June 1) you had already printed a letter objecting to the York Naked Cycle ride, and wish to put my point of view.
I believe other towns have such rides why not York? Could there be any more effective way of bringing any cause to public notice?
If one had to walk naked along the centre of a busy road, holding aloft a notice with the words "get yourself noticed" printed on it in large letters, I doubt he would be struck by any vehicle.
As to the repeatedly used argument of "protecting children", from visible exposure to adult naughty bits or wobbly bits, prehistoric generations of children must have survived this, since we are here.
I think it is usually religious types who object why they take such a (to me, stupid) stance on what nature gave us, I don't know.
If this god is claimed to have made man in his own image and likeness', and in their opinion this image is objectionable and dirty, I must assume they must conclude god to be, in effect, a dirty old man, if parts of his supposed most magnificent creation must be hidden from view.
People are entitled, as I, to their opinions. But no one is forcing them to watch, and children would only see this as dirty' if adults associated with them taught them that.
I hope it goes ahead it is about time we had such harmless, interesting and natural events in York, to spice life up a bit.
Mr D Dawson, Clifton, York.
