May I take advantage of your letters pages to follow up a recent report in the Diary column, which kindly publicised a talk that I gave recently to some of the governors and staff of York's Theatre Royal?

It was about my research into the early days of the York Citizens Theatre and the York Repertory Company in the 1930s, 40s and 50s, and referred to Nellie Woodhouse.

My thanks to those of your readers who contacted me with their recollections about the late Nellie Woodhouse, former resident of the Groves and one of the "Rep" company's longest-standing fans.

As a bonus, the publicity led to Nellie's family in Croydon and in Australia receiving cuttings from their friends, for which they have told me they were most grateful.

However, I should also like to ask for your further help.

One of the local respondents who tried to contact me was a lady acting on behalf of a friend of hers from Scotland, who apparently had some theatre memorabilia to share.

Unfortunately, being in my dotage, I lost the local lady's telephone number and thus have no way of reaching her. If she would kindly contact me again, I will try to do better next time. My apologies to her for my stupidity.

Finally, I would be really grateful for any recollections from your readers about their visits to the Theatre Royal before, during and after World War II.

Part of my research involves compiling a selection of tapes of such memories from theatre staff, actors and audience members.
