I would like to give my full support to the editor of The Press for running with the story and pictures of the suicide attempt.

I was also in town at the time it happened and had to walk past with my two-year-old son.

Luckily, I had just missed it, but I would like to say the people who stood there and watched the man fall should be ashamed of themselves.

Maybe we should take a good, hard look at ourselves and ask why these people stood staring, because, personally, I could not think of anything worse.

So, to the people who have complained, maybe the public have a right to know what makes a person do such a terrible thing in such a public place when there are children in the street as well as people who don't want to see such horrible things after leaving work.

The public clearly wanted to see the spectacle. I say give them what they ask for.
