KING Arthur ruled in the York Union of Golf Clubs' Seniors Championship in which shorts were the dapper fashion order of the day.
Arthur Williams, a 12-handicap member of York GC, battled through sweltering conditions to win the 18-hole stableford championship staged at Pike Hills GC with 43 points.
That was one point better off than a trio of players - Stuart Gregory (Fulford), defending champion Les Dickenson (Pike Hills) and Easingwold's Malcolm Pringle, whose final positions were determined on count-back.
Fifth place went to Mick Stockell of the host club, also on count-back, from The Oaks' Norman White after both totalled 41.
A total of 102 players competed for the championship.
Count-back also determined the YUGC's Reed Trophy for higher senior handicappers.
The title eventually went to Aldwark Manor's Ron Perigo, whose 40 points score was matched by runner-up Michael Sullivan (Easingwold) and third-placed David Milson of Pike Hills.
