I WAS so incensed by the attitude of Tom Mitchell ("Start at home" Letters, July 12) I feel I must reply.
I think a trip to Africa would do him good, then he might find out for himself and understand what the word poor means.
As for the poor in our country it seems to me that a lot of people need to be educated in how to manage and use money. There are so many hand-outs these days (never heard of when I was growing up) no one should be classed as poor.
We were always well fed and clothed by mothers who knew how to cook and sew. No ready meals and frozen foods, nor did we ride about in cars.
Come on Mr Mitchell, you try showing compassion.
