LEE Wild had a superb all round day for North Duffield against Norwich Union in the HPH Vale League first division.

First, Wild hit 106 from his side's 183-5 total. Then, he completed a daring display by taking 5-58 from the Union score of 150. John Patrick also bagged five wickets as only Brian Garnett (63) got going with the bat.

Bishopthorpe stayed top after beating Burn. Bishopthorpe batted first and Chris Moores (73) and Danny Williams (59) advanced the score to 212-7. Mike Smith took 6-51 for Burn. Dave Prime hit a spirited 60 for Burn but the pace of Ian Holmes (4-45) told as Burn fizzled to 160 all out.

British Sugar played Askham Bryan YPO, whose Steve Bellerby found his scoring touch as he hit 71 of Sugar's 172 total. Mike Hamshere took 5-86. In reply, Askham found Wayne Bellerby too much to handle as his 5-38 helped to skittle them out for 137.

In division two, Stockton and Hopgrove hit 144-9 against Stillingfleet. Dave Kerrison hit 55 as Chris Walker took 4-39 and Chris Woodfine 3-30. Stillingfleet's reply was littered with falling wickets with only Rob Murray (38) contributing as they finished one run adrift against Derek Fryer (4-32).

Hirst United found batting hard against Copmanthorpe, struggling to 97-9, of which John Hughes took 4-16. Copmanthorpe's Dave Purdy steadied the reply to underpin a five-wicket win.

Ovington hammered Malton and Old Malton with a fair degree of Steel in division three.

Batting first, Ovington hit 225-8 with Barry Steel (48), Nadeem Sadiq (40) and Tom Cookson (44) in the runs. Graham Haigh then took 6-25 as Malton succumbed to 62 all out, that man Steel wrapping up the innings with a hat-trick.

Clifton Alliance smashed 216-3 against University Staff, Alistair Wray top-scoring with 92no. The Staff were up with the run chase until five wickets fell in two overs and they eventually perished 20 runs shy. Ashley Pike hit 69, while Bill Roddham took 5-23.

Wistow bowlers Jamie Middleton (5-27) and Lee Clayton (4-22) bowled out Burton Salmon for 52. Kevin Waite (3-33) did his best but Wistow won by five wickets.

Division four found Drax smacking 214-6 against Heworth, Steve Smith (82) and James Brook (51no) hitting the runs. Heworth then posted 176-3 in reply as Anton Rogers (51no) and Stephen Clark (55no) put on an unbroken stand of 103.

Pocklington hit 179 against Huntington. Gary Pears top-scored with 38 as Stu Ross (3-68), Jamie Ross (3-61) and Paul Walls (4-42) took the wickets. Stu Ross returned with 38 but bowlers Martin Ryan (4-54) and Phil Grayson (3-43) kept Huntington eight runs adrift.

In division five, Sheriff Hutton hit 164-7 against Stockton and Hopgrove. Number eight bat Andy Batley top-scored with 75no. Stockton then hit 136 in reply as they were tamed by Sally Harrison, who took a stunning 5-7. Mick Carroll top-scored for Stockton with 53.

Selby were dismissed for 65 against Wheldrake. Calum Dent (4-14) and Simon Carding (4-16) doing the damage. Steve Morrin then had Wheldrake wobbling by taking 4-18 but they inched over the winning line for the loss of six wickets.

Huntington prevailed in the Prendergast Memorial Trophy. Opponents Thorpe Willoughby I hit 165-6, Kevin Rich (77) and Dave Watson (49no) the principal scorers. Watson then took 3-14, but a valiant 57no from Dave Hosford saw Huntington home by five wickets.
