It's Pontefract's 13th annual 'Red Shirt Night' tomorrow - a charity meeting to raise money for the Injured Jockeys' Holiday Fund - and Pomfret Lad deserves attention in the feature race.
The £15,000 Antonia Deuters Handicap is the target for the seven-year-old, trained by Settrington-based John Quinn, who earlier this week announced that he is to rent the Highfield stables in Norton from September 1.
Quinn will continue to train from his present base, but will have 30 extra boxes, plus many additional facilities at Highfield, which was purchased in April by John Fairley, the Ryedale-based chairman of Highflyer Productions, which produces racing programmes for Channel 4, Racing UK and RTE.
Pomfret Lad, approaching peak form, has finished in the frame in his last two starts. He was a creditable third behind Borderlescott at Haydock on his latest outing.
Although he faces some tough opposition in tomorrow's competitive handicap race, he could well pop-up at rewarding odds.
Malton apprentice Tony Hamilton, who rode two winners at York last week, has the mount on Pomfret Lad.
Mr Wolf, who won at Ayr on Monday, can complete a quick double by taking the Jerda Security Products Classifed Stakes. The four-year-old hails from the David Barker stable at Scorton, which is in impeccable form.
Remaal is an interesting runner in the totesport.com Fillies Handicap over a mile and a half.
A well-bred three-year-old, Remaal made a winning start to her career in a maiden race over this course and distance last month.
Open to further improvement, as she gains extra experience, she may be capable of following-up in this handicap.
Sheriff Hutton trainer Mick Easterby and jockey Dale Gibson, successful at Haydock last night with Westcourt Dream, can follow-up at Carlisle tomorrow afternoon with Trick Cyclist in the Azure Handicap.
The four-year-old, formerly trained by Andrew Balding, chased home the in-form Trinculo at Newcastle last time. It would be no surprise to see him make a bold bid here.
Nap selection Gifted Flame has every chance of winning the Diamond Geezer Handicap, just as he did in a similar race at Carlisle last week.
David Barron's gelding, who needs to be produced late, seems to like Carlisle's uphill finish and he is fancied to score again under smart apprentice Philip Makin.
