YOUNG York City Knights prop Liam Watling has joined up with Hunslet Hawks Academy to get some game time.

The youngster was signed at the end of the amateur season from York club Heworth but is yet to get a chance to show head coach Mick Cook what he is made of.

Said Cook: "We've sent him to Hunslet academy for a month on loan. It's a good opportunity for him because he needs to get some game time under his belt.

"He may get a shot this year but I need to have a look at him and I've only seen tapes so far.

"We'd been hoping to get him training with the Leeds Rhinos academy but that's during the day and he works, but Hunslet are part-time."

Meanwhile, the Knights have decided not to keep Shaun Ibbetson on loan.

The feisty second-rower came on board for four matches ahead of the Blackpool home game, with Sunday's victory over Keighley signalling the end of the period.

However, he only played a handful of minutes after picking up a knee injury on his first appearance.
