YORK Cricket Club enjoyed a home Yorkshire ECB Premier League and Cup double with victories over Appleby Frodingham and Cleethorpes at the weekend.

However, they received a serious blow when influential all-rounder Rob Flack collapsed in his delivery stride with suspect knee ligament trouble which could keep him out of the key part of York's season.

Against Appleby Frodingham, York amassed a huge total when Michael Sheedy and Simon Mason put on 183 for the second wicket. Useful knocks from Nick Kay and Rob Flack enabled skipper Marcus Wood to declare four overs early at 297-4.

Wood might have worried at his generosity when Frod openers Anders Vermeulen and Miles Morland looked well set at 84 off 20 overs. However, spinners Mark Bell and Dan Broadbent got together in harness to share nine victims. The fielding was excellent with the first nine wickets falling to catches. With their closest rivals all taking maximum points, Yorks lead remains at 15 points

In yesterday's Sunday League Cup quarter-final against Cleetrhorpes, York lost two early wickets to veteran paceman Andy Carrington. All York's main batters got a start but none went on to make a commanding score so that a total of 234 with 13 deliveries unused seemed slightly disappointing.

After Nick Kay grabbed a wicket, Will Kirby and former West Indian Test batter Sherwin Campbell put on 61 at over four an over and seemed a real threat but this was snuffed out when Broadbent took a phenomenal return catch to dismiss Campbell.

Thereafter, the innings had little permanency and wickets fell regularly to Broadbent's off spin. Mike Mortimer took over from the injured Flack and grabbed three scalps himself. Broadbent added six wickets to his haul of five the previous day to make a thoroughly satisfactory weekend for the Clifton Park club.
