WITH reference to your article "Cash Man Hunt" (July 4), why should our security services have to pinch, save, beg, borrow to raise funds for fighting our enemies, both internally and externally?
In our quest as a community to live our lives without fear or favour from the would-be criminal fraternity in our society, we expect service from our emergency services.
I don't blame these services for having to find extra cash to service and carry out their work.
Having to create a post to the tune of £34,000 beggars belief. Where does the money originate? From our taxes of course.
The next step in the equation would be to revert back to the war years, ie save your tin cans, tear up your iron railings, to contribute towards manufacturing and supplying the air force with planes and the almost destitute navy with ships.
Sorry I almost forgot our once-proud shipbuilding and steelworks are almost non-existent. They are built abroad.
Tear up your well manicured lawns and dig for victory, allotments are fast disappearing beneath a concrete jungle.
My answer would be to any Government, bring back rationing cards to be used at supermarkets, deter the common use of credit cards and get back to basics.
